China unofficially responded to Disneyworld by proposing to construct the endless Wonderland theme park 32 kilometers from Beijing. It would have been the largest theme park in Asia, but they never finished building it, even though they announced it that way while it was still in progress. Budgetary concerns first shelved the project in 1998. In 2008, there was another attempt to revive it, but it failed once more. Mid-May saw the demolition of the semi-finished buildings and other attractions, but many tourists still came, and a different man at the parking lot even showed them around.
