The World's 16 Most Abandoned Places

#14 The abandoned dome houses in CapeRomano

A man named John Tosto acquired the dome homes in 2005, following their completion in 1981. He's still untouchable. There is an uprising over the refurbishment, and some reports say Tosto might even fine them $185,000 for it. Personally, I wouldn't renew them. Since we can't update these houses significantly, the remodeling process here is akin to clearing out a dozer, giving them an unrealistic, unfinished appearance. While you can preserve the view, it's safer and easier to start from the ground up. I can understand why tourists find the dome residences so appealing. Not unexpectedly, a lot of people refer to the boat as a floating forest, and it's an amazing sight. Given that the trees have taken root in the ship's deadly dispersing hull, the sight is almost terrifying. It's not any less odd to see from the top with Google Maps.
