After deciding to switch rooms, James turned on the heat and they both climbed into bed. But it didn’t take long for the odor to return. This time, James had a better idea of where it was coming from. As Scout stood just outside the room, clearly unwilling to endure the smell any longer, James turned to Mandy. He suggested the smell might have something to do with the heating system

After all, he’d turned on the heat in the previous room before they got into bed, and that seemed to be the only common factor. Could the heating vents be trapping dust or mold, releasing the unpleasant scent when activated? James wondered if they should check the filters or call a technician to inspect the system. Meanwhile, Mandy agreed it was worth investigating, though neither of them wanted to spend another night dealing with the issue. Scout, still lingering in the hallway, seemed to vote with her paws by refusing to step back inside.
