Dutch Island is a fast-disintegrating island in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. Farmers and fishermen once inhabited the island, but now it stands empty. Built in 1888, the mansion struggled for a century against the shoreline that was vanishing more and more. The previous owner, Stephen White, attempted to preserve both the house and the island, but he was powerless against nature.
